Selling Daughter

This piece is inteded for audiences between the ages of 16 to 50 and its purpose is to educate the publuic with events that are carroed out in our world today.

The father of child actress Rubina Ali who played in the famous movie "Slumdog Millionaire" which recently hot theatres tried to sell his 9-year-old daughter for adoption in a bid to attempt to escape the Mumbai slums. Rafiq Qureshi (who is the father) wanted 20 million rupees ($400,000) for the girl, who played Latika in "Slumdog Millionaire" which was set in India. It may have something to do with the fact that "Slumdog Millionaire," a rags-to-riches tale of children from the slums of Mumbai, won eight Oscars in February, including the best picture Academy Award and yet the family received very little money for this masterpiece. Some reporters had posed as a wealthy family from Dubai, employing its regular "fake sheikh" sting tactic.
It was reported that Qureshi was touting for the highest offer, having already been approached by a Middle Eastern family.” Yes, we are considering Rubina's future," Qureshi was quoted as saying. Along with “If you wanted to adopt we could discuss this, but her parents would also expect some proper compensation in return. Whatever money is agreed I will accept but we need two or three months," This disturbing incident took place about a week after Qureshi proudly carried Rubina through the Mumbai slums in February after she returned from the Oscars.
